Bolometric Light Curves of Supernovae

چکیده
The thermalized energy from the radioactive decays of Ni and Ni and their daughter nuclides power the light curves of supernovae near maximum light. The bolometric light curve gives us a fundamental understanding of the energy evolution of a supernova explosion and the amount of radioactive nuclides produced. In this review, I will discuss the bolometric evolution of the Type IIp supernovae SN1987A, and the general class of bolometric light curves of Type Ia thermonuclear explosions.

The Rise Times and Bolometric Light Curve of SN 1994D: Constraints on Models of Type Ia Supernovae
Using the published photometry and an empirical model of the temporal evolution of the apparent magnitudes in the UBVRI passbands, we have constructed a continuous optical bolometric, or “quasi-bolometric”, light curve of the well-observed Type Ia supernova SN 1994D. The optical bolometric light curve is found to have a maximum luminosity of about 8.8 × 1042 × ( D 13.7Mpc) 2 erg/s, which is rea...
متن کاملEpochs of maximum light and bolometric light curves of type Ia supernovae
We present empirical fits to the UBVRI light curves of type Ia supernovae. These fits are used to objectively evaluate light curve parameters. We find that the relative times of maximum light in the filter passbands are very similar for most objects. Surprisingly the maximum at longer wavelengths is reached earlier than in the B and V light curves. This clearly demonstrates the complicated natu...

متن کامل1 0 Ju n 20 09 Bolometric Light Curves for 33 Type II - Plateau Supernovae
Using data of three well-observed type-II plateau supernovae (SNe II-P), SNe 1987A, 1999em and 2003hn; and two atmosphere models by Eastman et al. (1996) and Dessart & Hillier (2005b) we derive calibrations for bolometric corrections and effective temperature from BVI photometry. The typical scatter of the bolometric correction is 0.11 mag. With these results we obtain bolometric light curves a...
متن کاملRadioactive Decay Energy Deposition in Supernovae and the Exponential/quasi-exponential Behavior of Late-time Supernova Light Curves
The radioactive decay energy (RDE) deposition in supernovae from the decay chain Ni →56Co →56Fe usually directly powers the ultraviolet/optical/infrared (UVOIR) bolometric luminosity of supernovae in their quasi-steady state phase until very late times. The result for this phase is exponential/quasiexponential UVOIR bolometric light curves and often exponential/quasi-exponential broad band ligh...
